Ok beauties, this has been something I have really wanted to do since I started this blog, and that is do a monthly skin analysis for you all.  I am hoping to eventually cover all skin types and address many skin concerns and questions you have regarding your own skin.  As an esthetician and green beauty advocate it is my mission to help you all achieve beautiful, balanced, radiant and healthy skin using all natural and nontoxic products! The beautiful brunette beauty pictured below is my long time friend Alicia, and she came to me in search of some new green beauty products in hopes of eventually detoxifying her entire beauty routine (another convert beauties, yay!). Of course I was delighted to help and went over a healthy skin care routine with her and also had some fun doing her makeup for her (she’s so gorgeous it was  the easiest makeup application ever!).  First off, after giving Alicia’s skin an analysis I determined her skin was normal; I mean this girl has NO blemishes, NO dryness, NO oilyness, NO signs of aging (totally jealous).  She probably has the most beautiful skin I’v ever seen with these amazing freckles peeping through. So, the routine I have suggested below are for those with a NORMAL skin type. Alicia is 29 years old so I wanted to throw in a couple of age preventative things because you can never start too early ladies!!

Night Routine

Step 1,REMOVE: I love RMS raw coconut cream to remove makeup. Apply a small amount to skin and gently remove with a soft cloth. Since this is organic coconut oil, I think it’s a perfect makeup remover for normal skin. Retail: $18 (2.5 oz) $42 (8oz).

Step 2, CLEANSE & EXFOLIATE: This Konjac Puff Facial Sponge is my new obsession. You don’t even need a cleanser with these because each one contains something beneficial in them already! The Konjac Sponge is made with 100% top quality food grade Konjac plant root. This plant root balances the acidity of the skins impurities and oils. It stimulates the blood flow and growth of new cells. Dare I say you may not need a clarisonic anymore with this gem of a sponge?! For normal skin, I recommend the green clay sponge. Retail: $11

Step 3, TREAT: If you have normal skin and get an occasional pimple here and there, I recommend the Indie Lee Blemish Stick to keep them at bay. Alicia did not have blemishes so she doesn’t need to treat with anything else (lucky girl)! Retail: $31

Step 4, HYDRATE: Alicia is still young but we can never start the age preventing process early enough right?! To keep the process gentle, yet effective I recommend Indie Lee’s Squalene Facial Oil, it improves elasticity, radiance and helps reduce the appearance of fine lines. You may use this is conjunction with a night cream during the winter months for extra hydration but this hydrates extremely well on it’s own as well, without leaving an oily residue whatsoever!! Gently work into face and neck, a little goes a long way! Retail: $35

Step 5, EYES: Again, don’t neglect your eyes, even at this age!! I think Beautycounter Any Time Eye Cream is a perfect choice for just starting out with an eye cream! It’s super gentle and full of aloe and coconut oil to really hydrate the eye area! Retail: $32

Day Routine

Step 1, CLEANSE: For morning keep it simple, splash your face with cool water to wake you up and get that blood flowing! I actually like to rub an ice cube all over my face, it tightens & brightens!! Then gently cleanse with Beautycounter Cream Cleanser. Retail: $24

Step 2, TONE: For normal skin you don’t really need anything too strong to tone, which is why I like Beautycounter Rosewater Uplifting Spray. Spray all over face after cleansing then give it time to soak in. This is going to make your skin look healthy and refreshed! Retail: $32

Step 3, HYDRATE: You can use the Indie Lee Squalene Facial Oil during the day too which is another reason I love it so much! It is extremely wearable under makeup and gives you a from within glow that I love! Remeber, a little goes a long way. Retail: $35

Step 4, PROTECT: Not only is sunscreen imperative to keep you looking younger and preventing skin cancer, but  a nontoxic sunscreen is even more imperative for doing the job and keeping those toxins out!! The Suntegrity Natural Moisturizing Face Sunscreen & Primer, Broad Spectrum SPF 30 is an amazing nontoxic all in one that protects you from the sun and preps your skin for makeup. AMAZING! Apply this on face and neck to prep skin for makeup! Retail: $45

Weekly: Once a week it’s imperative that you treat your skin to a nice mask to deep clean and restore your skin. My new favorite is the Leahlani Skincare Mermaid Mask. This mask is literally a superfood for your skin, full of Hawaiian raw honey, spirulina, chorella, sea buckthorn and more! Use this green gooey magic twice a week for about 5 minutes and your skin will thank you for it! Retail: $22

Ok beauties I hope you enjoyed my first on the blog skin analysis, I will try to do one once a month to address more skin related questions and concerns!!

This is a post that I am especially excited about. Molly is the face behind one of my personal favorite green lifestyle/beauty blogs Maison Pur, and we have teamed up to interview each other! We are hoping that through our interviews, you can get to know us a little better as wives, mothers, bloggers and green beauty advocates! Molly has become a fast friend of mine via Instagram and email, I feel like we just connected instantly (our hubby’s find it funny how you can have such good friends on social media). We also support each other, our blogs and what we stand for. We hope you enjoy our interview fun, most of it is green living/blog related, but we answer a few fun questions at the end! 🙂

FREE LOVE BEAUTY: What made you decide to go green in your household?

MAISON PUR: Ok, here’s the long version: When I was 18, I lived in Africa for a bit and contracted Malaria. Since the treatment is basically poison, it was a long road to feel like myself again and get well. I really became aware of nutrition and the toxic crap in our food. I began avoiding processed foods and trying to eat organic whole foods instead. I thought I was living a pretty healthy lifestyle and doing a good job of avoiding the bad stuff by eating clean. It wasn’t until I was pregnant with my first child that I learned the truth about what was in all of the products and cosmetics I was using, along with all the toxins in our household stuff. Then mild panic may have set in :). I went into a frenzy to try to clean out our house! I’ve been dedicated to keeping our home pure ever since.

FREE LOVE BEAUTY:  How many kiddos do you have? Ages and names?

MAISON PUR: I have 2 kids- Carson just turned 4 and Annabelle is 1 1/2.

FREE LOVE BEAUTY:  How did you come to the name of your blog?

MAISON PUR: Maison Pur is French for Pure Home. It’s a nod to my love of all things French but also a horrible choice for a blog name! No one can ever remember it and unless you speak French you would have no idea what my blog is about.

FREE LOVE BEAUTY: What type of impact are you looking to have from your blog?

MAISON PUR: If nothing else, I see my blog as a place to educate and advocate for a non-toxic lifestyle. I’m passionate about sharing the truth about what’s in our products, but I also love showing that ditching your toxic products doesn’t mean you have to go super crunchy with dirty hair and smelly pits. I’m definitely not a hippie! I expect my products to keep me looking and smelling fabulous, and not to be adding toxic crap to my body.

FREE LOVE BEAUTY:  What is you favorite green beauty product (this one will be tough!)?

MAISON PUR: Like asking me to choose a favorite child!! I would have to say my Suntegrity 5-in-1 because it’s one of the only products I use everyday. I play around and rotate most everything else.

FREE LOVE BEAUTY: What do you suggest for those trying to make the switch to a green lifestyle?

MAISON PUR: I usually say to start with the things that cover the most surface area, like body lotions and things with a lot of fragrance (ditch the perfume ASAP). But most other products are easier to switch as they run out. Otherwise, it can be costly and you may not end up with products you love when you rush to buy replacements.

FREE LOVE BEAUTY: What are your top 5 favorite bands/music artist?

MAISON PUR: So hard to narrow it down! I’d say Mineral, Braid, David Bazan, Ben Folds, and Smashing Pumpkins. Lot’s you may never have heard of but I’m a 90’s emo girl at heart.

FREE LOVE BEAUTY:  Absolute favorite food?

MAISON PUR: I love a lot of ethnic food but if frequency counts, my most favorite food is Chipotle. Specifically, their vegetarian burrito bowl with lot’s of Guac. I have that at least twice a week!

FREE LOVE BEAUTY:  If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?

MAISON PUR: Ahh! Another tough question and one my husband and I talk about a lot! We’ve both lived abroad so we often talk about moving abroad again, maybe to Spain or France (mostly after too much wine). We also talk about NYC or Boston, but at the end of the day, our kids are little and all of our family is here, so for now Charlotte is our perfect place.

FREE LOVE BEAUTY: Favorite nail polish shade of all time?

MAISON PUR: Right now my favorite is ‘Mr. Pookies’ by Aila. I love a dark, moody polish!

I had SO much fun with this! Isn’t Molly awesome?! I have had so much fun getting to know her! If you want to get to know me a little better too, check out my interview with Molly on the fabulous

So when I posted my holiday gift list for the green beauty I got a ton of feedback and a lot of interest especially in the Josie Maran Winter Dreams Color Collection Set, so I thought I would do a quick little review on my thoughts and what the set includes! The focus of Josie Maran Cosmetics is Argan Oil, it is the main ingredient in almost all of her produtcts. Argan Oil is said to hydrate, balance, repair and replenish hair, skin, fine lines, you name it! After using this cute little set for over a week now I have to say I’m very impressed with everything and highly recommend this for a gift…..or to treat yourself with some argan love!

100% Pure Argan Oil Light: Ok so I haven’t used this on my face yet because I am loving my skin right now and I don’t want to disrupt it BUT I have used it on my hair and I LOVE it. This is a super multi-use product  and a little goes a long way! The main difference of the Light Argan vs. the Regular is that the Light is a featherweight version and will give you more of a matte finish, I would recommend this for those with combination/problematic skin who want to give Argan Oil a try for the first time. There are NO filler oils, parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances or phlalates in this little beauty.

Argan Black Oil Mascara: This is my new favorite mascara, hands down. I LOVE this. It’s super black, doesn’t flake or run and the brush is a large 5 ball brush to give you super full lashes! Infused with black mineral pigments and bamboo to stregthen lashes, this baby is a natural beauty lovers dream! I will be purchasing full size when this runs out! A great find from this set!

Coconut Watercolor Eyeshadow in “Rio de Rose Gold”: This eyeshadow is really unique and may be intimidating at first but I actually really like it. It is made with 50% coconut water and another layer of argan-infused mineral pigments. The idea behind this product is to actually give your eye area more hydration and create a more youthful appearance. My only complaint is that its VERY metallic so use sparingly. I actually use this as a highlighter in the tear ducts and high points of cheekbones and it’s lovely! The set includes a full-size eyeshadow which is an awesome value!!

Argan Infinity Lip & Cheek Creamy Oil in “Limitless Pink”: Again, this little gem is infused with Argan Oil and meant to nourish and hyrdate along with giving your lips and cheeks a pretty and wearable rosy pink tint! I have no complaints, it’s a simple product that is nice for a quick out the door look! NO petroleum, parabens, sulfates or phlalates in this either!

Argan Illuminizer: Ok beauties this one is the game changer! Also infused with Argan and Vitamin E, this baby gives you a true airbrushed, glowy, 8 hours of sleep look! It has a gorgeous bronzy, champagne glimmer and SO many uses. I like to mix it with my moisturizer or foundation, but you can also highlight with it or mix with your body lotion as well! LOVE this stuff!

I hope this review helped you beauties decide if this is worth a purchase or not! I personally love it and with a retail price of $34 (Value:$69) this is a steal! Not to mention I’m obsessed with the dreamcatcher packaging!! Find the Winter Dreams Color Collection at

Josie Maran Winter Dreams Argan Color Collection: I love this set, I know some people say Josie’s line isn’t the cleanest, but it also isn’t the worst by any means so I think this would be a great gift idea for someone looking to transition into a cleaner makeup routine.  The set includes 100% Pure Argan Oil Light, Argan Black Oil Mascara, Argan Infinity Lip & Cheek Creamy Oil (Limitless Pink Shade), Coconut Watercolor Eyeshadow (Rio de Rose Gold Shade), and the Argan Illuminizer. The products are a little smaller than usual size but the eyshadow is full size and the products will last you awhile.  It really is a beautiful set and a STEAL at $34!!!

I have gotten quite a bit of requests to do a post about my favorite nontoxic baby and kids products so here we go!! If you follow my instagram you probably know by now that I am the proud mama to Landon (3 years) and Kameron (7 months). After I had my son, I thought that the products I was using on him were safe but after my son got sick I did immense amounts of research only to discover that these products are loaded with chemicals that I did not want anywhere near my kids anymore!! So once I gave birth to my daughter, I was more then prepared. I did a full clean out of our bath and body products. Blogs like were a huge help in reassuring me that the products I chose for my babies were safe, along with I highly recommend checking out both of those sites, Jessica from Bare Beauty puts a lot of time and effort into researching ingredients which I LOVE! So lets get started!!

The Honest Company Diapers & Wipes: For me this is a no brainer, Honest diapers are SO good, and I’ve tried quite a few safe diaper brands but Honest absorbs the best. My daughter stays dry throughout the night where with other brands she would leak through. These plant-based diapers are FREE of chlorine processing, latex, lotions, fragrances, phthalates, PVC, brighteners, and heavy metals.  I love that Honest wipes are FREE of alchohol, chlorine and formaldehyde; they are super gently and I actually use them for everything (wiping hands, sticky toys, etc.). Win win for me!! Wipes Retail-$4.95 Diapers Retail-Differs depending on size and amount

The Honest Company Organic Healing Balm: This stuff is pure magic, no….really it is. Kameron gets the most chapped chubby cheeks from crawling everywhere and rubbing her face so much and about an hour after of this magical balm soaking into her cheeks they cleared up immensely!! The magic ingredient is organic tamanu oil which eases inflammation and restores the skin. I use this on my hands when they get really dry too. Retail- $12.95

The Honest Company Kids Toothpaste: FREE of artificial dyes, fluoride, saccharin, parabens, gluten, artificial flavors, and artificial sweeteners. Bottom line-my 3 year old loves the natural strawberry flavor, it contains baking soda to gently polish teeth, and calcium to strengthen enamel. A good purchase! Retail-$5.95

California Baby Calming Shampoo & Body Wash: While many bath products contain synthetic fragrances that are petroleum based, Cali Baby is botanically based, vegan, no sulfates and scented with high quality essential oils. It’s pricey but a 17.5 oz. bottle lasts me for about 4 months!! Retail-$17.99

California Baby Super Sensitive Diaper Rash Cream: With organic aloe, calendula extract and naturally based zinc oxide, this ultra rich cream does the job naturally-NO synthetic fragrance, NO mineral oil. Retail-$10.39

California Baby Calendula Everyday Lotion: Made with botanical Calendula, cold pressed vegan oils and a pure calming essential oil blend, this lotion smells devine, soothes my babe’s skin and absorbs reall well. Retail-$10.34

California Baby Super Sensitive Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen Stick (mouthful!)- NO fragrance, NO chemicals (oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate) and is SUPER water resistant. Yes, this leaves behind a noticable white residue but that doesn’t bother me, safety first!!! Retail-$13.49

Badger Chamomile & Calendula Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Zinc Oxide Sunscreen Cream- Ok, if you are looking for the cleanest, greenest sunscreen you can get your hands on, this one is it! It is non-nano, 98% organic, water resistant and it really works well! I used this on my son all through his swim lessons this summer and it worked-but it leaves white residue and is hard to rub in well. It’s completely worth it though to keep my kiddos safe!! Retail-$13.99

Beautycounter Kids Counter Squeaky Clean Body Wash: I love this stuff for my son. It has a light, fresh berry scent and lathers up really well! It is formulated without parabens, phthalates and synthetic fragrances. Retail-$16.00
